Cox Mountain trail tops out at 606 feet you started at 350 feet it is steep. You will rise from the river to the top in about. After you return to the Cox Mountain Trail the ascent becomes very sudden and very steep. You will hike along a great scenic section of the river. To lengthen your hike and see some of the best of the river take this 2 mile loop. Across the bridge you begin to slowly ascend Cox Mountain, and will come to the Fanny Ford Trail. I also found the Eno Trace trail there a small loop with signs about wildlife and trees in the park. Very quickly you descend to the river and cross the swinging suspension bridge and pass by the Wilderness cabin. The Cox Mountain Trail is a 3.5 mile loop that starts at the picnic area. It is about 2 miles from the parking lot everything has to be packed in and packed out. the primitive camp is on the Fanny Ford trail. Fews Ford also has a primitive camp and group camping areas. Some of the tables are on concrete pads with concrete walkways through the picnic area. here is the ranger station, the visitor center, modern restrooms and a great handicap accessible picnic area. Fews Ford access- This is the main area of the park which stretches for 8 miles along the Eno River. I also commend the rangers in this park for using paint for trail markers instead of pounding nails into trees to hang the cheap plastic ones. A portion of all these trails are also on the Mountains to Sea Trail.
